Customer Service
Nothing original from me... but I read this during my morning browse and came across this on the VW discussion board... I was LMAO!

-------------------------------------------------------------
WOW, the stupid people i have to deal with! i call vw road side assistance to have my car towed. this is about as well as i remember the conversation.

vw: VW roadside assistance are you in a safe location?
me: yea
vw: what seems to be the problem?
me:the epc light is on and the car doesn't accelerate
vw: oh that's because the car is stuck in park
me: it's a 5 speed stick shift
vw: ok sir, this is a common problem the car is just stuck in park, if you would go out to the car i will help you fix it.
me: my car doesnt have "park" its a stick shift
vw: go outside sir so i can teach you

not feeling like argueing so i go outside

vw: ok sir, put your foot on the brake and place the shifter between "n" and "d"
me: my car doesnt have "n" or "d"
vw: i know how it works sir, my car is stick shift. just put it between the neutral and drive
me: i don't have those on my car, its stick shift, how about i stick it half way into first?
vw: ok sir do that, now pump the brake 5 times and turn the key 1/4 turn, is the light still on?
me: yea the light's still there
vw: you must have done it wrong, let's try it again.
me: how about you just get the tow truck out here, this doesn't seem to be working
vw: lets just give it one more try sir
me: the instructions you have are for an automatic gti, my car is manual, it won't work
vw: ok sir i'll just send the tow truck out to your location.
me: thank you
vw: this is the wierdest case, i've never had anyone call about there stick shift car being stuck in park.

this is a 100% true story which happened to me today in the afternoon

Attention: International Audience
Boy and I went and saw The Eye over the weekend. Boy liked the movie a whole lot, while I was scared sh|tless, squirming in my seats. The majority of the movie is in Cantonese, with some Thai and Mandarin thrown in there. The subtitles are pretty well done, but I think there are still some storyline that got lost during the translation, nothing important, just that I'm glad I understood the lauguage and was able to enjoy the movie more.

I have a question though, especially for the readers of this site that are in m'sia, s'pore, taiwan, HK.... or just somebody who knows, shed some light please:

Is it common to have a dialogue in the movie where three people are speaking three different dialect? In the movie, at one point, the lead actress was speaking in cantonese, her grandma was speaking replying to her in what I assumed is Hakka, and then later down the line, an actor was speaking in mandarin and, the lead actress was speaking in cantonese...

Maybe I have been out of touch with the asia movie scene, but it is just weird, like something is not coherent. But I am used to watching movies that if everybody speaks mandarin, then mandarin it is, not half-half like this movie.

Oh wise ones out there, share with me your thoughts. Thanks!

ps. Gotta say these, for those who know our beloved Brian Hew (back in Metro), there is a eerie resemblance between him and the lead actor. Heh. Go check out the movie and tell me what you think.

no more "complaints"
I was able to pace myself while reading the new Harry Potter book, so when 4th of July rolled around, I just sat on the couch or lay in bed most of the time, hungrily devouring the second half of the book. Early evening saturday night, the 800++ pages long book shut with a thud, and life was back to normal again—meaning—no more complaints1 from s.boy.
