Thunder over Louisville
I was late for my lunch date with Holly last Saturday -- we were supposed to go for dim sum in Louisville. But when I arrived at her house at about 1:30pm, she told me that Thunder over Louisville was that same day. Being the spontaneous girls that we are, we decided to go for Thunder instead of dim sum and shopping. So off we go, both of us in our pretty clothes and high heels.
We spent about 20 minutes looking for streetside parking, and finally found one about 10 to 12 blocks away from the riverfront. All we could think about as we headed towards Joe's Crabshack was food. We finally got there, and to our dismay found that they were not serving any seafood unless you had a $250 reservation upstairs. And since it was crowded with people, we couldn't get a table, so we ate our $4 nachos, wings, and a hotdog on the floor. At least our seat on the floor was right next to the fence, so we could watch the airshow that went on the entire day. The guy at a table next to where we sat was nice enough to offer us his daughters' seats until they came back, so we sat and rested for about 30 minutes .... and then the BIG WALK began!
We started walking everywhere, under the bridge, over the bridge ... we even sat by an intersection and started chatting and people-seeing for about an hour and a half. We saw a few people eating corn and decided to get some for ourselves, but unfortunately we ran out of cash. Luckily, a friend of Holly's told us where we could find ATMs close by. (By the way, Holly, I still owe you $50.) After more walking around in our heels (which were absolutely killing us), we decided to get some slippers from the hawker stands. $15 for 2 pairs, and we each got a brightly-colored flower slipper, blue for Holly and yellow for me. Aaaahh, much better!
It was finally 9:30pm, and the firework show started. Itt was spectacular! Needless to say, our 8 hour sacrifice was well worth it. At 10pm, we started heading back to the car with about a million other people. We drove to Spring St. for some food, drinks, and bathroom since I-64 was closed off until midnight. What a day ... the joys (and sacrifices) of spontaneity! :)
